North Eastern Region Livelihood Project (NERLP)

Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region had, in consultation with the Department of Economic Affairs, initiated discussions with the World Bank on the feasibility of a North Eastern Region Livelihood Project (NERLP). The project proposal is based on the IFAD assisted NER Community Resource Management Project (NERCRMP) which has been successfully implemented since 1998 in two districts each of Meghalaya, Assam and Manipur.

A Preliminary Project Report for NERLP was prepared by this Ministry in consultation with the Planning Commission and referred to the World Bank through DEA. The World Bank has since agreed to develop and assist in implementation of the proposed project. The World Bank fielded a Mission to Guwahati and Shillong from 12-15 December, 2006 to carry out a preliminary assessment and develop the project. An Identification Mission of the World Bank visited Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland from 26 February to 3 March, 2007 and 12 to 15 March, 2007 and Health consultations with State Government officials and other stake holders. Report of the Mission has been received and discussed with the World Bank team on 16 April, 2007. The report is being revised based on the discussions.

M/DoNER has sent the Preliminary Project Report to all the 8 NE States on 18 December 2006 and requested for comments. The Preliminary Project Report is also hosted on this website.
